evolution111It’s official. We’ve been tricked. Men have never been known for their patience and cunning ways. Waiting for their master plans to unfold. Let’s be honest, those are things women pretend to not pride themselves on. But this plan has been in the works for almost a hundred years. Oh women, you want to own property? Ok that sounds good. Voting? Sure, why not. Military service? Less chance of a draft for us. Women have slowly received more and more support for the feminist movement in the past century. And here we naively thought men were doing it because they were enlightened. They wanted us to be equal. Nope.

Men are no longer the “aggressors” they used to be when beginning a relationship. They don’t have to be. They’ve used our feminist movement against us. Yes, it’s acceptable now for women to approach men, be aggressive, ask them out on dates. But just because we know we can, doesn’t mean we want to. Being a feminist doesn’t mean that we want chivalry and the feeling of being wanted to go out the window. Yet, we’ve made excuses for the fact that men don’t ask us out anymore. We let them get away with it. Men have realized they no longer need to hunt. Their prey comes to them asking to be taken away.

While it’s easy to blame men (very easy), are women also at fault? We claim that guys aren’t aggressive anymore, don’t come up to us in bars, or take initiative in asking us out, but maybe it’s really that as overeducated, ambitious women we don’t like being chased. We’ve been chasing our whole lives for schools, jobs, and promotions. It would make sense that we believe we need to chase men and they are simply responding to that. We forget that guys are just as afraid of rejection as we are and need a lot of encouragement to approach a woman. Because of this, maybe we need to go past just being nice. Play it up a bit more. Take our version of effective flirting to the next level. They REALLY need to get the point.

In this highly digital and slightly impersonal world, I don’t see hunters coming back in full force. I just don’t want men to descend into “herbivores” (google herbivore men). Is that too much to ask??

P.S. to the two straight men reading this: Approach girls when you are out. You will score major points.
